Mac users notice when software was not made for them

This is not a marketing sentiment; it is a support cost. A cross-platform client that ignores macOS conventions generates a particular kind of complaint — it looks wrong, it behaves oddly, it does not sit properly in the menu bar — from a customer segment that is otherwise low-maintenance and willing to pay full price.

A dedicated macOS build avoids that. Same accounts, same servers, same panel behind it; an interface that fits the machine it runs on.

Where macOS differs from Windows in practice

The two desktop clients are priced identically at $499 and do the same job, but the work behind them is not interchangeable. Apple's distribution requirements are stricter and more prescriptive than Microsoft's, and the platform's networking permissions model is different. The differences that will affect you:

• Notarisation. Apple requires software distributed outside the App Store to be signed and notarised, or macOS will refuse to open it. This runs through your Apple Developer account.
• Permissions. A VPN client on macOS asks the user to approve a network configuration. That prompt is normal, and worth documenting for your customers so it does not look alarming.
• Apple Silicon and Intel. Confirm the coverage you need for your customer base.
• Distribution route. Direct download from your site, or the Mac App Store, each with different review implications.
