A television is not a large phone

The Firestick app shares your accounts, your servers and your branding with the Android app. What it does not share is the interface, because the way someone uses it is completely different. There is no touchscreen. There is a directional pad and a select button, operated from a sofa three metres away, often by someone who is not the person who bought the subscription.

That changes real things: targets have to be large enough to hit with a d-pad, focus has to be visible from across a room, the path from opening the app to being connected has to be short, and text has to be readable at viewing distance rather than reading distance. An Android phone app sideloaded onto a Firestick technically runs. It is not pleasant to use, and your support inbox will find out.

Why this matters commercially

Firestick users are a distinct and valuable segment. They are often streaming-first customers who would never install a VPN on a phone but will happily add one to the device they actually watch things on. If you are also selling IPTV, this is the same hardware your existing customers already own — which makes it the shortest path to a second product with the same audience.

What is in the build

  • Amazon Fire TV and Android TV devices
  • Navigation designed for a directional remote
  • Connect screen with session status at television scale
  • Server and location selection you can operate without a keyboard
  • The same panel authentication as your other apps
  • Your logo, app name and colours

Sideloading onto a Firestick is a normal distribution route for this category and your customers will expect instructions for it. Whether you also publish through the Amazon Appstore is your decision and happens under your own developer account.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the Firestick app the same as the Android app?

It is the same account system and the same server list, built for a different way of using it. A Firestick is driven by a directional remote from across a room, so navigation, focus states and text size are built for that instead of for a touchscreen.

Does it work on Android TV as well as Firestick?

Yes — the same build targets Amazon Fire TV devices and Android TV.

Is it included in the $250 package?

Yes, alongside the Android app.
